Sketches of Proposed Design

Design Statement

Evolving from a photogrammetry process, a bird sculpture was accurately digitally modelled. This became the inspiratino for the design of a 3D model which would evoke the senses. By creating a swinging bird cage without any openings and a bird swinging on a water bowl within, the artwork conveys a paradox: movement and tranquility, freedom and entrapment. The four piece artwork consisting of a base, stand, bird cage and water cup within is carefully pieced together from curved elements and loop connections to form an interactive display which beholds a jewel-like quality. Once assembled, the artwork cannot be taken apart, representing a "solid within a solid" model which would otherwise be impossible to produce without the use of 3D printing.
